Madison Square Garden isn’t known as The World’s Most Famous Arena for nothing. As that nickname suggests, Madison Square Garden in Manhattan literally is the most famous arena of its kind. If you are a musician or a professional sports team, chances are you dream to one day play in Madison Square Garden (MSG).

If you are visiting New York for a sporting event or concert, there’s a good chance your destination will be Madison Square Garden. If so, you will surely enjoy the historic site that is also a high-class venue.

While there were previous locations for Madison Square Garden, the current version of the arena was built in the late 1960’s and is located between 31st and 33rd Streets. At a cost of $123 million, The Garden built and quickly became an important venue in New York.

Madison Square Garden is likely most famous for the boxing matches, basketball games, hockey games and musical concerts that have taken place within its walls. Currently, the following teams play their home games at The Garden: the New York Knicks of the NBA, the New York Liberty of the WNBA, the New York Rangers of the NHL and the New York Titans of the NLL (lacrosse). Additionally, college basketball and professional wrestling are major tenants of the arena.

The seating capacity for Madison Square Garden differs depending on what event is taking place. For basketball, the seating capacity is around 19,800. For hockey, that number is lowered to around 18,000. For concerts, Madison Square Garden can hold about 20,000 people.

Since Madison Square Garden doesn’t offer parking, you have to take that into consideration when visiting this venue.
